Cauca: Arquitectura Monumental Tardoantigua

Abstract

This article is the result of almost a decade of research at the roman site of Las Pizarras (Coca, Segovia); an important Late Roman uilla, not only by its monumentality, but also by the social, economical and cultural impact between the roman city of Cauca and its territory. The analysis of Las Pizarras contributes to broaden the Late Hispano-Roman panorama, as it is a considerable find by its relevancy, technical quality, luxury and degree of ostentation expressed in the pars urbana of the building. In fact, all these characteristics exceed those of a simple roman farmstead and determine to set out new hypotheses about the dominus.

Este artículo es el resultado de casi una década de investigación en el yacimiento romano de Las Pizarras (Coca, Segovia), una importante 'uilla' tardorromana, no solo por su monumentalidad, sino también por el impacto social, económico y cultural entre la ciudad romana de 'Cauca' y su territorio. El análisis de Las Pizarras contribuye a ampliar el panorama tardorromano, ya que constituye un hallazgo considerable por su relevancia, calidad técnica, lujo y grado de ostentación expresado en la 'pars urbana' del edificio. De hecho, todas estas características superan las de una simple explotación rural romana y permiten plantear nuevas hipótesis sobre su 'dominus'.
