Spolia, reaprovechamiento y reciclaje de materiales en la villa romana de Las Pizarras (Coca, Segovia)

Abstract

After the undergone changes within Roman villas, related to the loss of traditions and social customs, as self-representation, these noble buildings tend to suffer uncertain destinations. Within Las Pizarras monumental villa (Coca, Segovia), it has been possible to identify the degree of impact and dependency that constructions of these characteristics imply for their inhabitants and those from the nearby Coca. In this paper, we will analyze new housing, economic and funerary practices fulfilled in this place and the kind of transformations suffered according to plunder, recycling and re-use of their building materials. All those changes reveal the strong in-time entailment developed for this suburban villa, not only in the way of life, but also in the supplying procedures of an entire community after the complex gradual usefulness.
